This has been a rough couple of weeks. I feel like I have never put my body through so much - no sleep, not eating well, and just a little too stressed. This is all little ironic, because the newest campaign I am working on is about organs revolting against the body to stop binge drinking. This has taken up all my free-time the last month or so. But I'm loving the campaign, but who knows how effective it is? I've never even had a sip of alcohol.

Our idea is pretty much the personification of organs, giving them distinct personalities, and led by the liver, start a revolution to stop binge drinking. When I first heard that my capstone advertising class will be working on a binge drinking campaign, I was disappointed - cause it's impossible to come up with something awesome on such a serious subject. However, if I would have known I was going to be animating body parts to hilarious voices, I would have be excited from day one.

Anyway, we competed against 4 other BYU teams for a chance to represent BYU in the regional competition is SLC. We ended up winning and now we can compete! If we win in SLC, we will go to the nationals in DC.

This campaign was really fun, mainly because I took place in every stage of development. After lots of research and planning, we came up with our idea. A film director I know gave me some names of some voice actors that I contacted and they helped willingly - and added a lot to the campaign.

It may not look like much, but the animation took me days to finish. It was a great chance for me to improve my animation skills, I suppose.

I showed my mom and dad the campaign, and they didn't seem to like it very much... but they said they did, so that is all that matter right? So maybe college kids appreciate this kind of humor more.

Yep. I'm going to Mccann Erickson for at least of couple of months. I will be an art director in the creative department. I'll be taking off on April 27th, and may be home on June 19th. I hear great things about them and I'm super pumped to go to New York City and grow a beard.

Nostalgia

So over the past few months, I've done a lot of things that has reminded me of my childhood...

The first thing I have done was face a fear that has followed me for 20 years. The movie Willow. It came out in 1988. I was four. Someone recommended that my mom take me. When the movie ended my mom asked if I liked it and I said, "It made my tummy hurt". Since then, I have seen bits and pieces of it, and each time it gave me a weird, unsettling feeling - sort of like being eaten alive by creepy dogs. Sarah and I were hanging out with friends and they suggested we watch Willow. My heart sank a bit and new it was time to face this fear. Anyway, we watched it - and I can say that I am still terrified of that movie.

The other day, I decided to swing by the old grocery store Reams. Now, I used to go all the time with my mom dressed in my superman pajamas. However, at the time I did not know they were pajamas. I thought it was a legit superhero costume. Anyway, this Reams is unique because its layout is kinda like a maze of dark hallways. Anyway, being well over a decade since I last stepped into that store, I decided to take a stroll. I was amazed on how well I knew the store. I especially knew exactly where the isle was with the shabby toy selection.

I used to be a dinosaur fanatic as a kid. For some reason, lately, my desire for dinosaur knowledge has re-kindled and I'm hooked on dinos again. But as science has progressed, dinosaurs become less and less cool as they used to be. A perfect example of this is the velociraptor. When Jurassic Park came out in '93, they were mind-melting awesome. Being 6-feet tall with large claws, they were the perfect nightmare for a 10 year old boy. However, their portrayal in the movie is not accurate. Turns out they were 3 feet tall and had feathers. So just picuture this little guy in the place of those raptors is JP, and the movie would be a comedy.

Anyway, turns out dinosaurs were dumber than I thought and there is no such thing as a brontosaurus. It's actually called an apatosaurus.

Even though re-learning about dinosaurs is a little depressing sometimes, I've decided their awesome-ness factor still ranks higher than anything else (robots being #2 and jets being #3).

All of this also reminds me of a TV show David and I used to watch. Dinoriders! I've seen a couple episodes on youtube, and it doesn't disappoint. How can you go wrong strapping laser guns to dinosaurs? Hollywood needs to take note. It's the formula of success.

I just finished fall semester! I only one more to go! As of now, I am signed up for 17 credits.

I got called into the primary (Sarah got called into nursery). I have taught the 9 year olds for the past two months. My team-teacher is a ghostbuster. I just found out I have been switched to start teaching the 6 year olds starting January. I guess the material for the valient 9s was over my head.

Christmas was great. We split our time between Sarah's family (visiting from Vegas) and my family.

Married!

Yes, its true. I tied the knot and I am married. The experience was amazing and I was so surprised how everything came together. Seriously, nothing wrong happened, which I am a little saddened about, because I have no hilariously embarrassing stories to tell. Oh well.

Now, this is one of the reasons I have not updated my blog. I feel like this has to be an amazing post because it was such a significant experience. Well, because the time keeps slipping away, I'm going to settle for a mediocre post - involving a list of sorts.

1 - On August 16th 2008, at exactly 3:37pm, we got sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

2 - It took me less than 15 minutes to shower, shave, get dressed in a suit, and run out the door.

3 - My "wedding haircut" was one of the top 5 worst haircuts I have ever received. It ranked up there with my nasty part in 4th grade, flat-top in 5th grade, and my buzz I received on my mission. Good thing it grew out a bit before the wedding.

4 - Sarah and I had known each other well over 2 years by our wedding date

5 - I talked about video games and Battlestar Galactica more than once during my reception.

6 - Despite being August, the weather was freakishly in the low 80s.

7 - I only had a tiny bite of the wedding cake. In fact, the nibble Sarah and I took off was the only piece of the cake anyone had eaten all night.

8 - Even though my suit was awesome, I was really self-conscience because the pants we really baggy. I probably could have smuggled a small family across the boarder in them.

9 - The night before I got married, I was up with my old roommates playing computer games till 2am. That was my crazy bachelor party. It was scandalous and amazing!

Now on to the honeymoon:

1 - Cozumel Mexico - It was the first time both of us have been south of the boarder.

2 - I finally had a sold swallow of alcohol. It was really gross. That's how I recognized it. I guess you have to be really specific when ordering from a bar, not to have alcohol. Who would have thought??

3 - There was a swim-up bar at the swimming pool! The benches were under water. I have never been more amazed....

4 - We saw a nurse shark. It was a such a crazy story, I have sold the rights to Paramount and they will make another Jaws movie. I get to star as the shark.

5 -Our horseback rider tour guide was sneaking off by himself to drink some booze when we weren't paying attention

6 - We ate two dinners a night. One at a nice buffet, and another scheduled sit-down resturant.

8 - Sarah fulfilled her life-long dream of swimming with dolphins. My life-long dream is to be an astronaut, but that didn't happen in Cozemel.

9 - Sarah and I got two henna tattoos each! I got a shark with Sarah's name under it! I also got a tiger on my wrist. I had to make sure I got the most fearsome animals on land and on sea. But every happy story has a sad ending. It turns out, that 1 out of 1,000 people are allergic to black henna tattoos. I had to be the one. I got a horrible rash and I can still see a faint scar of the shark on my arm. I am always the unlucky one. I just looked it up, and the odds of Sarah pregnant on birth control are just the same.

10 - I have never dreamt of zombies before my honeymoon. I had two zombie dreams. Sarah happened to put her arm on top of me during one of my creepy zombie dreams. I picked up her arm and threw it away - twice! (hey... I thought it was a zombie arm!) I felt really bad, but it seriously makes me laugh everytime I think about it!

Anyway, since the marriage/honeymoon, things have been great. Marriage is really fun. Way better than the single life (which is tough to beat). It's perfect to have a best friend to come home to each day.

20 years ago I was:

-Wearing cowboy hats and riding on my toy horse
-Learning works like "no", "food", and "Deinonychus".
-Begun my lifetime relationship with my blanket

10 years ago I was:

-Hitting my awkward teens, while staring 8th grade
-Began playing football for Farrer Middle School
-Playing computer games and laser tag with the neighbors
-Was well into my 6th year of my paper route.

5 years ago I was:

-Just graduating Provo High and thinking about the mission.
-Starting to get into computer multimedia - especially animation.
-Working in a metal shop - welding, smashing, bending, and cutting stuff.

3 years ago I was:

-In the city of Annandale teaching people who couldn't speak English to recompense themselves with the atonement. They never quite understood me very well.
-Hating to fill out paper work each night and adding numbers without a calculator.
-Wondering what it was like to not have someone who dressed like me follow me wherever I went.

1 year ago I was:

-Dating Sarah and moving out of condo row.
-Switched my major (3rd time) to pre-advertising.
-Working at the CTL trying to act like I knew photoshop to impress the people I worked with.

So far this year I have:

-Found out that Sarah wants to marry me too.
-Somehow got into the creative advertising program.
-Read one book. Well... 3/4 of a book.

Yesterday I:

-Got released from being a elders quorum instructor
-Ate dinner with the fam and Sarah
-Realized the AC in our new place was broken

Today I:

-Tried to fix the AC at our new place. Didn't work.
-Dropped off some stuff at DI
-Got a couple of claims on the Corolla for the damage the UTA bus inflicted. Turns out if I play my cards right - I may get some cash when all is said and done!
-Drew a robot for an advertisement at work. It's not gonna fly...

Tomorrow I will:

-Go to work.
-Join the Airforce.
-Elope. 2 weeks seems far away.

In my lifetime I will:

-Build a time machine and visit the dinosaurs.
-Be an astronaut.

It feels really nice to be where I am at in school. I'm really looking forward to my fall schedule - which has never happened! I will be taking a film class, an Adobe Illustrator class, Flash animation, and an After Effects class (which is sorta like special effects and cool openings for things like movies and stuff). With 15 credits, it will be a busy semester.... but the most fun. Anyway, I thought I would post the video that started it all. To get into the advertising program, I had to submit a 60 second video on why you think you should be accepted into the program.

Stitches

Today is a good day. I realized that I am no longer in pain. A month ago, I went to see the doctor to look at some moles. Because all of my moles want to be cancer when they grow up - I went back 3 different times within 3 weeks to get them all off. With a grand total of 36 stitches that ranged from my back to my knee to my shoulders - I finally feel good again - after weeks of healing.

So, I saw The Dark Knight last weekend. It was amazing, not perfect, but close. I don't think I have ever seen a better villain than the Joker. He pulled of the insane, creepy, humorous bad guy perfectly. Sarah wants to see it again asap, but I think we'll wait at least a month. We think its worth seeing twice in the theater.

So, as most of you know... I am engaged. Yes, it's to Sarah. She's the coolest thing to come to Utah since the Y on the mountain. It's all pretty exciting, overwhelming, and anticipatory (new word?) Anyway, we are perfect together and I had no idea that I would ever find a girl as lovely as Sarah.

Just for kicks: here is timeline of our relationship:

May 06 - I started to hang out with her friends. She was always the quiet one who did homework in the corner of the room while we all hung out.

June 06 - The first time we were alone was in a car. We used to hang out at the castle by the metal hospital. All of her friends ran in the house to get some blankets and snacks or something. We stayed in the car. She was in the driver's seat and I was in the back. I didn't know her very well and I said, "How do you know I'm not some creepy murderer or something?" Then I reached up and strangled her from behind. That was the first time I touched Sarah.

July 06 - We went to the annual Massive Moab trip. By this time we kinda knew we both liked each other. We hung out the whole trip and the following Sunday night (July 9th) was our first kiss at Kiwanis park - pretty byu stereotypical - but oh well. Here is a picture of that night.

October 06 - So - I began to freak out because I was still a fresh RM and I felt like I wasn't ready to "buckle down". I couldn't find anything wrong with Sarah, and that scared me a bit because I did not want to get married. So, we broke it off.

November 13, 06 - Sarah's birthday. I had not seen her since the break up (which was weird because we had a lot of mutual friends) but we still chatted from time to time on gmail. I was chatting with her and told her I wanted to stop by and wish her happy birthday. She thought I was joking. But I ran out the door to her house and my roommate Brett yelled "You better not make out with her!". I didn't. But I did visit with her the for the first time in a while, and it was good.

December 06 - We continued to gmail chat. I found out that she had to come home right after Christmas because she had to work. I told her if she got bored, she could hang out with my roommates and I. On the 29th - I invited her over to watch "The Great Ewok Adventure " on the big screen at Ken and Paul's place. Then, two days late on New Year's eve, we decided to go to a friend’s house to hang out. Everyone seemed to think it was odd that we had broken up but we showed up together at the party. The party became awkward because we didn't know too many people. So I said, "You know how we watched two out of three seasons of Arrested Development? Do you want to go back to my place and start watching season 3?" She agreed. As midnight approached, we turned the show off and watched the ball drop. After it dropped, the most awkward 30 seconds of silence of my life occurred. Then it was fine after that.

Jan 07 - After a couple of weeks of uncertainty, still hanging out with her almost daily, I told her that it's been a great couple of weeks and I wanted to get back together. She agreed.

July 4th 07 - First time I told her I loved her.

Saturday May 10th 08 - We were just chilling out and I just came out of nowhere and asked "Do you wanna get married?" We talked the rest of the night about it. The conversation soon led to what our favorite dinosaur was.

Sunday, May 25th - Told the family at Sunday dinner we were sealing the deal.

Friday, June 13th - She pretty much knew a proposal was coming. One the night before it all happened - because I couldn't sleep, I decided to drive to her house at 3am. I broke into her car and left her a nice note. At the bottom I said "Look into the glove compartment for a surprise!" I left a ring box in there with a mint. I don't know if I fooled her, but I liked to think I did a little bit.

Saturday June 14th - The next day we drove up to Sundance and rode the chair lift thingie. It was a great day and the weather was perfect. After that we went up to Aspen Grove. I took her off a trail into a spot that opened up to a clearing. I left some picnic stuff and some flowers earlier that day. So, we ate some great Italian subs and then I got down on one knee and asked the question. She said yes! And now we will get married.

So I found out on April 11th, that I made the cut and I am in the program! They accepted 18 total creative advertisers, but only 12 of them got to be on the design team (which I got into). It's a pretty big deal because it's one of the most competitive programs at BYU to get into.

So what happens now? I get to take design, film, and concepting classes from now till graduation. I am able to graduate a year from now, but I may take my time a go another semester just to get more experience.

One of the classes I get to take will be teaming up with a student film director and plan, budget, and create a TV spot. It will be a lot of fun. Being all done with generals, I am now actually looking forward to school.

Some Ridiculous Things....

1) Stallone is working on a Cliffhanger 2!... Uh... I can't wait.
2) Your favorite cat can now be more fashionable with a wig. This is my second post involving cats. I don't know why I keep finding stuff on them...
3) Harrison Ford is 65 years old for the new Indiana Jones film. Somehow, the movie will find a way to be ridiculously amazing.... Have you seen the trailer?
4) Being a missionary in Virginia, I had a lot of people tell me I was going to hell if I kept being Mormon. They clearly spelled out the reasons, and for a non-believer, maybe their points seemed valid, maybe. However, never once in my life have I seriously considered changing religions because none of their reasons were appealing, or didn't feel right.... until now!
Apparently, there is a Jedi Church. This has recently been made into an official organized religion. Their doctrine pretty much states that the force binds the universe together. The have a couple other doctrines, but they are pretty vague. Apparently, the have light saber training AND you can get married by a Jedi minister. Think of the possibilities??? Anyway, after much thought, I have decided to remain a Mormon, but practice my Jedi moves behind closed doors. After all, I'm pretty sure Ammon was both a Jedi and a Mormon.

Movie Reviews!

I like movies. Here are some of the most recent action movies I have seen.

6/10 Cloverfield is a movie strictly from the point of view of a guy with a video camera. It is like Blair Witch Project has a baby with Godzilla. I had a lot of mixed feelings. Some moments were awesome and crazy intense. Other times, I felt was missing a lot of the action because it is only from one point of view. I do have to say, it's one of the best monster movies ever made - but what's the competition? The final movie kinda left me with a bad taste my mouth... even though the monster was crazy awesome.

7.5/10 Live Free or Die Hard is a movie about hackers taking over the world. I have never been a huge fan of Bruce, and the Mac commercial kid has always bugged me. Why did I like this movie? I have no idea. It just was enjoyable to watch. There were lot's of explosions and for the first time in movie history, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter made an appearance, even though it will not be used by the military till 2011. Anyway, good movie. Unrealistic, but good.

8/10 I am Legend is about a man who appears to be the last person on Earth after a disease or something else killed everyone off. This movie is pretty good. I felt like it didn't drag and it kept be highly entertained. Any movie involving zombie vampires is worth watching. My biggest complaint was the horrible special effects. I felt like it was made in the mid-90s when CGI became the new kid on the block.

4/10 Transformers is a movie involving robots deciding to fight on Earth to settle their concerns. Of course some random kid (Shia) gets involved because he is an avid ebayer. Maybe I'm a little biased because I never watched the show as a kid, but I thought this movie was pretty horrible. It was entertaining I suppose and the CGI was amazing, but I don't think I have a desire to watch it again. I betcha a sequel or two is going to ruin the franchise even more.

7.5/10 The Rundown is a movie staring the Rock. I hate the Rock, but my roommates always joked about how this movie is incredible. So we put it in one night at 2am and I do have to say, I was quite entertained. The Rock didn't bug me very much, the fight scenes were bone crunching fun, and the cinematography was surprisingly well done. It is about a bounty hunter (the rock) going to Brazil to get some dude. The movie didn't take itself seriously and that's why I enjoyed it. Even though it was unrealistic, it was purposeful.

Jus' Workin'

So... I will continue to update. I promise. This post is about my job. Back in April 2007, I wanted a new job. My priority was web design, but all the jobs BYU offered were either filled or included the name "web master" in it. I'm not sure what a web master is, but I'm sure it involves supernatural web design skills. i was referred to the Center for Teaching and Learning because they had a film program. All positions were filled, so I applied for the only thing open: a creative artist.

After having a stressful interview, showing some top-dogs some of my video and design work, i somehow got the job. And yes, I I didn't show some of the Meyer Brother's film creations involving the Deep Dark Downstairs trailer and an animation movie involving monkeys and penguins.

The job has been a lot of fun, chill, and pretty good pay considering it is a BYU job. The Center for Teaching and Learning helps the BYU faculty incorporate technology and other effective methods to improve the quality of classes. What do I do you may ask? I don't even really know. I make posters for projects our department has made, illustrate for online independent course textbooks, like Physical Science and religion courses, art director for DVD projects, work on top secret school projects, read forums on Battlestar Galactica, and download lots of music.

It's Christmas!

So... It's Christmas timeish. Christmas has seemed to ivolved in my mind throughout my solid 23 years of living. I wish to give a brief summery of some memorable Christmases.

This video shows my very first Christmas tree! I think as my family got a real tree that year, the tree seller asked me if I wanted my own tree. Of course I accepted, and it took nearly two decades to realize that he simply gave me a tree branch. Nonetheless, it has gone down in history as the greatest Christmas tree ever. The rest of the video marks the only time in history where I actaully wanted to sing in front of a camera. At this point, baby Jesus wasn't a thought in my mind. I was all about the goods, at that's exactly what I got....

I think I remember asking for matchbox cars this year. I'm pretty sure I still believed in Santa, although the cheap imitations at ward parties didn't fool me. I was simply there for the little grab bag full of candy Santa gave you after you told him what you wanted.

Now, this Christmas was interesting. Having full awareness that Santa Clause is dead, but still holding on to the the fact that the more presents you get, the better Christmas is, I somehow got disappointed and threw a fit. My face looks so horrified, I'm sure I would have given a similar look if I was told by a doctor I had a week to live. I remember getting lots of Legos that year, but I guess it wasn't enough in my mind. How disappointing is it to have your kid cry on Christmas day. Sorry mom and dad...

Both Christmases during my mission were quite entertaining. The first year, my roommates and I decided to find whatever we could find, wrap it, then put it under our tree, that we cut down off the side of the road. We found presents at abandoned trailer parks, on the side of the road, and dumpsters. There ended up being about 50 presents under the tree. The highlight was getting a large, stuffed with mini styrofoam balls, frog, which I ended up gutting with a knife. I realized, as I was lying on the floor with my new frog companion, that I don't care what I open for Christmas, as long as it is big, and I can stab it.

What will this year bring? What new understanding and enlightenment will come? Only time will tell..

Cats!

Okay, so lately I have warmed up a little to cats. I know it’s against Meyer tradition to do so. One of our friend’s cat chills out with us from time to time in the duplex. Except for peeing on the love sac twice, she has been very well behaved and sometimes very entertaining.

However, after a discovery today, I’ve gotten a little too weirded out by cats and am slowing drifting back into having a strong vendetta against them. Someone at work showed me this website. It explores the art of dancing with cats. That’s right. The website answers important questions about cat dancing such as “what should I look for in a cat dancing tutor?”

Apparently, because of the strange environment and the loud music, cats need to stay home during the classes while the proud cat owner learns the moves and has the opportunity to spend a romantic weekend dancing the night away with their feline companion. I guess you have to buy a $50 life-sized bendable model to practice with during the dance classes.

So, after being creeped out by cats and their dancing potential, I have come to realize that if I want to have a cute little thing to entertain me and fill a void in my life, I'll make a baby.

Another Epic Game

I've been excited for this game ever since BYU started wrapping the on-campus statues with plastic. But seriously, if I was from the U and wanted to paint a statue red, I think a little bit of plastic wouldn't stop me. The BYU bookstore sells a variety of razor blades.

Congrats to BYU for pulling off another last second win. I have a major confession: I was in Provo, but was not in Edwards Stadium. I think my sister Lisa lost 3 years off her life due to frustration when she found out I wasn't there. I watched it in my warm house on the big screen while grilling steak and drinking Mountain Dew. It was great, but probably not good as actually being there. BYU is now ranked 19 in the BCS poll this week!

My Life

So, just in case it has been a while since you've caught up with me, here's a bit about my life:

I just got accepted into the BYU advertising program! I am working on getting accepted in the creative (graphic design) tract and will apply in April. I am currently working for BYU's Center for Teaching and Learning. I do design and illustrations for them.

I am dating an awesome girl named Sarah. She's the best. My class schedule is pretty light this semester and I am enjoying every moment of it. I live in a sweet place with a bunch of friends. With about a dozen computers in the house, a grill, home theater system, and a trampoline in the backyard, life is never boring.
